Practical Road Safety Engineering Workshop, July to August 2020

A

In July and August 2020, a “Practical Road Safety Engineering” workshop was conducted online for Asian Development Bank (ADB) staff, highway engineers, Traffic Police and other professionals from road agencies representing 21 countries across Asia and the Pacific. Participants in the workshop were from countries as far apart as Tonga (in the east) and Azerbaijan (in the west). The program was organized and hosted by ADB, in cooperation with Road Safety International.

ADB and the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC) Institute have been working together for the past 4 years to deliver capacity building workshops in line with the CAREC Road Safety Strategy goals and objectives. The workshops have been a joint effort to build understanding of best practice principles in road safety, particularly in five essential components of road safety engineering:

  1. treating hazardous road locations (blackspots).
  2. road safety audits.
  3. roadside hazard management.
  4. safety at road work sites.
  5. pedestrian safety.
